Generations of Love

by Diana Jewelers of Liverpool
Here's a story of a lovely lady....Oh that sounds too much like the "Brady Bunch". I am dating myself here. This beautiful remount is generations of love all wrapped into one. I can't say enough about this wonderful couple. And she was our VIP winner at Christmas! Certainly a "blingy" Holdiay Season! Enjoy and dream!

Generations of Love Custom94-1-14

Three larger diamonds set in white gold prongs very close together. An antique style shank with pavee set diamonds and a milgrain edge add to the detail.

Mother's Ring becomes one of a kind pendant

by Diana Jewelers of Liverpool
Here's a new remount pendant story. A client had a unique mother's ring with three marquise colored gemstones surrounded by diamonds. The marquise center stones were held by only two prongs each and loosened repeatedly. The small diamonds also loosened. The solution? This beautiful heart diamond pendant used all her stones and made this one of a kind mother's pendant for this lovely lady. The heart slides on an adjustable box chain allowing her to adjust to any length up to 22". I look forward to seeing this couple again but not to tighten her stones. Enjoy this new idea for celebrating MOM.

Married to a Memory of a Father

by Diana Jewelers of Liverpool
This beautiful set comes with beautiful sentiment. A center diamond, pair of earrings, band and most importantly a wide yellow gold band from this client's father created the perfect set. Using the diamonds in the new engagement ring, the yellow gold bands perfectly frame the new engagement ring. And the best part? The hand engraving from her father's ring is still present. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Bulova Watches

Bulova Watches Bulova-CURV-Chronograph-Watch-20

Founded in 1875, Bulova has proudly stood its ground in American innovation. At the tender age of 24, Joseph Bulova emigrated from Bohemia and took a chance by opening a small shop on Maiden Lane in New York City. During that time, he quickly carved a niche for his business and distinguished himself from most of the other jewelers in the area through quality, innovation, and artistry. Joseph transformed how pocket watches were worn and seen during that time period, while also working to establish a place in the burgeoning market of wristwatches that were on the cusp of becoming so popular....

Making the Cut: Choosing the Style of Engagement Ring That Fits Your Personality

by Diana Jewelers of Liverpool
Navigating the world of engagement rings can be confusing, so going into the store as informed as possible about what you (or your future bride!) want in terms of not only the cut, clarity, and color of a diamond, but also the style and story behind it, can make things a lot easier when looking at types of engagement rings. There are countless engagement ring styles out there, so we at Diana Jewelers of Liverpool, NY have broken down the basics to help you make the perfect selection!

If your fiancée prefers something a bit more unique, the oval-shaped Marquise cut, ending in points at the top and bottom of the diamond, is right for her. If she'd like an oval shape with more rounded edges, then the Cushion cut (sometimes called the Pillow Cut) is more ideal.

Anniversary Dream Ring

by Diana Jewelers of Liverpool
This is a story of the creation of an incredible "Happy Anniversary" ring. This is special because it illustrates what can be done with a client's vision of her perfect ring. She couldn't find it anywhere and when she came to us seemed a bit discouraged; willing to "settle". I wouldn't let that happen. We designed the ring she imagined. So exciting! The combination of yellow and white in a simple twist, frames the 6 original diamonds from her wedding band. And the matching band slips perfectly into the engagement ring. An awesome couple! God Bless you both and many years of happiness to come!

by Diana Jewelers of Liverpool
This lovely lady transformed a ring and a pendant jacket from her Mother into one amazing ring. We looked at different styles and she chose the best features from each; the shape of the halo, how the diamonds were set in the side and the antique styling of the ring itself. These three different ideas merged into this one beauty. Scroll through and see the before images, the computer generated renderings and, of course, the final result! Enjoy!

Grandmother's Rings Transformed

by Diana Jewelers of Liverpool
This is a gift of rings from grandmother to granddaughter which were transformed into a new pendant and ring. She will always have her grandmother with her. A simple style that will be in style for generations. She has both ring and pendant to remind her of her Grandmother. This story touched my heart. I know how our daughter feels about loosing my Mother so I can appreciate this young woman's love for her Grandmother. This is a great example of the value of sentiment. She really wasn't concerned on the identity of the stones. She simply wanted to wear them.

Family Halo Ring

by Diana Jewelers of Liverpool
Here's a different twist on the popular halo setting. This client had an oval solitaire engagement ring. Her idea was to add her children and grandchildren's stones around her center; almost forming a 'family circle' around her diamond. Luckily the halo had just the right amount of settings so each person had 2 stones. The halo was added to her existing ring and her center diamond reset.

Opal: October's Colorful Birthstone

by Diana Jewelers of Liverpool
Opal: Octobers Colorful Birthstone Opal, October's birthstone, is known for its breathtaking "play of color." This "play of color" is created by minuscule silicone spheres which bend the light passing through the gem. Each stone displays an array of different colors including stunning reds, greens, and blues. Its beauty is enhanced when set against darker minerals such as ironstone, basalt, or obsidian.

The word opal comes from the Sanskrit word "upala" and the Latin word "opalus," meaning "precious stone."

Rose and White Gold Diamond Ring

by Diana Jewelers of Liverpool
I have been so excited to show you this final recreated piece. And, this lady is truly as lovely as her new ring. She brought in a ring, a pair of channel set diamond earrings and two diamond pendants. Her request was something on the wider side, but also delicate. Together with some "visual aids" we took the journey from a quick sketch and the final computer rendering to the gorgeous result. She simply imagined the possibilities. Enjoy and have a great weekend!

Here are her original pieces. You can see her engagement ring, diamond freeform pendant, diamond hoop earrings and a 5 diamond pendant:

Antique Style Diamond and Ruby Ring Custom77-1-18

A ring that brought tears to this sweet young woman's eyes? Yes, but they were joy filled tears. The result is an antique style ring whose focus is exactly on where it should be; the memories of her Grandmother. bb

Happy Saturday! When a client comes in for a repurposing of jewelry I explain there are three layers to that onion:

2-With thousands of pieces already available, we find the perfect piece already made that matches her stone(s) size(s) and set the stones.
3-The client likes a certain style from different pieces but her stones may not match settings that already exist. So, we make it from scratch.

Let Diana Jewelers and Parle "Color Your World!"

by Diana Jewelers of Liverpool
Let Diana Jewelers and Parlé Color Your World! Idaho Opal & Gem Corp. has come a long way since May 1973, when it was started by a couple of college students mining opal at the Lost Dear Hunt claim in Spencer, Idaho. The growth started when people said they loved the loose stones, but would find it easier to sell the gems if they were mounted in jewelry. IOGC listened to those customers and began to sell opal in very simple jewelry settings.

Can diamonds chip? Yes. Diamonds grow in layers and are cut along grain lines so if hit just right, they can chip. But diamonds can be repaired by an expert diamond cutter. Take a look at the attached before and after pictures. But the best part is the story: This was a gift from mother in law to daughter in law and will be eventually passed on to her granddaughter.

Another Transformation Treasure Story

by Diana Jewelers of Liverpool
Here's another transformation treasure story. A lovely lady and her daughter came in to recreate her mother's ruby and diamond ring. An oval center filled with varied sizes of diamonds was set in white gold and was surrounded by two rows of small round rubies. The goal was to make a smaller ring for Mom and create something with the rubies for her daughter. We took the center white gold portion, surrounded it with a yellow gold trim and a support undercarriage. Adapting her original ring allowed the view from the side to be similar to the original ring style. The rubies were used to create a stunning pair of drop pierced earrings. Imagine the sentiment of both ladies wearing their mother and grandmother's stones.

The Pearl is June's Lustrous Birthstone

by Diana Jewelers of Liverpool
The Pearl is Junes Lustrous Birthstone Pearl is recognized as the modern birthstone for those born in the month of June. The word pearl comes from the French, perle and most likely is a derivation from the Latin perna—meaning leg, after the ham-shaped leg bivalve.

Most gemstones are mined deep from within the earth, but pearls are unique In that they come from the sea. Pearls are created inside the living form, the mollusk, when foreign particles find itself within and shape the "gem" from within the oyster. Types of Silver

by Diana Jewelers of Liverpool
Types of Silver While silver is significantly less valuable than gold, it is like gold in that it is a very soft precious metal. Pure silver is generally too soft to be used for jewelry, flatware or decorations. It is therefore usually combined with an alloy to strengthen it before being crafted into anything. Like gold, silver is graded by how pure it is, with .999 FS (fine silver) being the most valuable. The numbers refer to there being 999 parts of pure silver per thousand parts.

Pure or fine silver can be used to make jewelry, and it can sometimes be used for silver-plating. To qualify as pure...

January's Birthstone is the Glorious Garnet

by Diana Jewelers of Liverpool
The American Gem Society has selected the garnet as the official birthstone of January. And here at Diana Jewelers in Liverpool, NY, we feel there is no gemstone more perfect for welcoming a whole new year.

The History and Significance of the Garnet
The garnet is a gemstone said to signify eternal trust and friendship. The word from which our modern day "garnet" is derived is the Latin granatum, which references a pomegranate seed.

In fact, the pomegranate itself shares more in common with the garnet than its traditional rich red color. Pomegranates have been culturally prominent for centuries as a sign of prosperity and abundance.

The first reference to the gemstone called the garnet was found in 3100 B.C. from ancient Egyptian culture. The Egyptians referenced the use of the beautiful garnet ...

Tanzanite - December's Newest Birthstone

by Diana Jewelers of Liverpool
Tanzanite, one of December's recognized birthstone, is noted for its trichoism: when a gem exemplifies three unique colors when observed at three different angles. This stunning birthstone displays deep royal blues, rich purples, and strong burgundies.

Tanzanite was first discovered in 1967 in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, in the East African country of Tanzania. It occurs in nature as reddish brown and will be heated to bring out tanzanite's signature trichoism. In 2002, it was named one of December's blue birthstones by the American Gem Trade Association.

Citrine, the Delicate Birthstone of November

by Diana Jewelers of Liverpool
Citrine is also commonly known as gold topaz. While much of the history of citrine and topaz overlap and many of the mystical properties that have been ascribed to them through the ages are identical, the only thing the two gems really have in common is their color.

November’s Birthstone

Citrine, the Delicate Birthstone of November Citrine and topaz both lay claim to the month of November, but Citrine’s wide availability gives it an edge. It’s been known as the healing quartz, and in mysticism circles it has been said to promote hope, warmth...

Peridot: The Evening Emerald

by Diana Jewelers of Liverpool
Peridot: The Evening Emerald Also known as the Evening Emerald, the birthstone for August is the Peridot. When this stone is placed under artificial light it will glow the color of brilliant green. Although this gemstone is very much the same as the emerald it has a much softer intensity. Peridots that weigh as little as three or even two carats can be quite pricy and stones that are about eight carats are almost impossible to locate. Beyond this weight, the larger peridots are all pieces in museums or with Private Collectors. The Washington DC Smithsonian Institution holds a peridot s...

The Origins of the Engagement Ring

by Diana Jewelers of Liverpool
The Origins of the Engagement Ring The engagement ring often appears to be a tradition as old as mankind itself. It's a sign of love that every woman expects to receive and every man expects to give. Whether it's diamond encrusted or a simple gold band, the engagement ring is a symbol that is as much a part of romance as the rose.

Where did it come from, though? The ring is a simple enough thing. Why, and where, did it become so closely entwined with the engagement?

A wedding set recreated for new beginnings

by Betsy
A beautiful wedding set no longer worn was transformed into
two pairs of earrings with a little added “bling”. The client’s center diamond was perfectly matched to size and quality with another diamond to make an incredible pair of diamond solitaire earrings; elegance to match the style of their wearer. By using the smaller diamonds in her engagement ring and two from her wedding ring, we created another pair of cluster earrings with diamonds set vertically; different in their style from the solitaire pair, with simplicity to be worn daily.

Bloodstone: March's Green and Red Birthstone

by Diana Jewelers of Liverpool
Bloodstone, one of March's birthstones, occurs in primary hues of green interspersed with maroon spots. Its primary hue is a type of quartz called chalcedony and the maroon spots are a result of iron oxide. To some these spots resembled blood and this is how the stone got its name.

Bloodstone: Marchs Green and Red Birthstone

Since the beginning of recorded history, bloodstone jewelry has been worn for its various mystical powers. In Babylonian times, soldiers carried bloodstone pendants into war in case of serious injury; the bloodstone pendant was believed to stop bleeding on contact. Bloodstone rings and ...

A story of a Mother’s Love to touch the heart

by Betsy
The loss of a parent is profound. The bond between mother and child is unending, even when one is no longer physically present. A client presented a greeting card; the last one given to her by her recently deceased mother. Her Mom signed all the cards for years in the same way “ Much Love! Mom”.

She asked if there was any way to duplicate her Mother’s signature on a pendant that she would wear close to her heart.

Absolutely. The art of hand engraving was the perfect solution. Our hand engraver duplicated her mother’s signature on a 14K yellow gold round disc. The simplicity of the disc made the engraving the focal point of the piece. She loves this piece and wears it daily, keeping her Mom close at heart.

A Romantic Tale

by Betsy
One of the most rewarding parts of the job is having wonderful clients. And we understand when they come with their assortment of jewelry to be redesigned; it holds more meaning to all of us because it isn’t only about the new ring. It is the story of combining the memories in all the pieces into one piece. And odds are that no matter what the design, those memories carry with them every emotion surrounding life’s events; marriage, children, careers, parents, grandchildren. Simply put; life’s ups and downs.
It was our privilege to create a design for one of our favorite people because she is so special to our hearts. Her redesign story is simple: create something new from my engagement ring, anniversary ring and perhaps a pair of earrings. Each piece...

Rings from Generations

by Betsy
The request:

Create a design incorporating the diamonds into one ring that can be worn daily, making the center diamond low, but with some detail to make it stand out, as it was the client’s original diamond.

The design:

- Using 6 large diamonds from the oldest cluster ring, we created a channel using three diamonds on each side of the center diamond. The sides are slightly raised to allow light into these stones as well as keeping the profile of the center low, per the client’s request.
-The center diamond is set in a low, custom designed head with a very special touch. On each side of the center diamond, at the base, are set four small diamonds in the curve of the head. These 8 small diamonds were from the client’s mother’s en...

Monogram: Customized Classics

by Betsy
Almost nothing feels as special or personal as a customized piece of jewelry. Necklaces and bracelets always feel fancy no matter what, but there is extra significance in a piece that bears the wearer's name.

Monogram's collection of jewelry sets itself apart from other customized accessory lines. Instead of spelling out the wearer's name or initials in an obvious way, Monogram, based out of New Hyde Park, NY, incorporates initials into delicate, ornate gossamer designs. At first glance, the pieces look like abstract filigree charms. This makes the jewelry even more meaningful to the person wearing it, because the significance is a secret just for her and the person who gave it to her.

Women gravitate toward the pendant necklaces first, since they remind wearers of the nameplate necklaces they wore as children. The i...

A Grandmother’s Surprise

by Betsy
A father and adult daughter came in to create a grandmother’s pendant for their special wife/mom. Our goal was finding a mounting that would take eleven stones in a balanced design; one that looks like it was always meant to be designed that way. With a little creativity, we found a mounting that took five stones and added the additional 6 stones to complete this grandmother’s pendant. They left the placement of the stones to us and luckily the balance of colors was perfect. What a wonderful family surprise.

Platinum: One of the Loveliest Precious Metals

by Betsy
Platinum Forever

Today people around the world celebrate the beauty of fine Platinum. This durable metal maintains a very high melting point. With a powerful 3,214.9 degrees Fahrenheit required to reduce precious silver-colored Platinum to liquid, rest assured that rings and other items of jewelry crafted from this rare metal last practically forever. Its awe-inspiring properties and symbolic durability make it popular in modern engagement rings and wedding bands. Few more meaningful testimonials to enduring love exist.

For centuries, Platinum remained very difficult to extract successfully. Despite the challenges, at least one ancient Egyptian tomb contains alloys of Platinum and some Pre-Columbian civilizations in South America on rare occasions used this metal. However, only with the invention of more poten...

Diamonds on Engagement Rings

by Betsy
Diamonds on Engagement Rings Diamonds have long been associated with engagement rings. It is suggested that the durability of this stone made it the fitting symbol of love. Since diamonds are the strongest and hardest mineral known to man, it became the symbol of a couple's unbreakable bond. Ancient Greeks believed that the diamond's spark was the reflection of the burning flame of everlasting love.

Historically, couple rings were either strands of braided grass, hair, a single silver or gold wire. Diamonds were not the only stone to be featured in the engagement ring. Sapphires, rubies, and e...

A Pendant and a Ring

The wish: To bring a client’s design to life using the diamonds from her first engagement ring and creating the ring and pendant of her dreams.

The added bonus: Alter the original ring setting to accept a smaller center princess cut and adding blue sapphires where the side diamonds were.

The plan:

-Pendant: This lovely lady drew a sketch using a large princess cut as the center and positioning the trapezoid side diamonds to show off the shape of the center. A simple white gold chain, attached with jump rings on the side, completes this simple and elegant design that can be worn every day.

The dream ring:

Client brought in a picture of the engagement ring she loved. After measuring her diamonds, we decided the stone sizes would work with her dream ring if we used the round diamonds from both the wedding band and engagement ring.

The matching diamond band:

The balance of the side diamonds were round and tapered baguettes and were set in a custom ring alternating the baguette and round diamonds, which lines up perfectly beneath the center head of the new engagement ring.

The client also had a small pinkie ring which had worn prongs and thin band plus slightly larger inherited diamonds. The result? A beautiful open scroll curved band with an added curved swirl bezel on the top for the center ...

The Timelessness of Silver

by Betsy
We have been using silver in various ways for thousands of years. Silver has been popular as currency, first appearing as official tender in Ancient Rome. Since then, silver has been used in everything from silverware to mirrors to electronics. And, of course, jewelry.

There is no silver jewelry, but rather sterling silver jewelry. This is because pure silver is too soft to create jewelry with. Therefore, a small percentage (7.5) are metal alloys. This gives it enough hardness to then create jewelry that will stand the test of time.

Sterling silver jewelry contains a timeless elegance that complements traditional beauty. Consider some of our selections from Parle Gems, such as the Sterling Silver Blue Topaz Wave 30mm Bangle

We love creating new styles for our clients. Often the best part is hearing the stories behind the jewelry and why it is so important to maintain the history. This is one of my favorites:

Two rings given to one woman; one from her mother and the second from her mother-in-law. The rings were similar in style but different enough to tell them apart.

The wish? To create a ring with her mother’s cluster head in the center and use all the diamonds from her mother-in-law’s ring in the rest of the ring.

The idea? After examining different settings and patterns, she decided on a classic design . By removing the yellow gold shank on her mother’s ring and the diamonds from the other ring we created a whole new loo...

Diamond Cut - The Most Important of the 4C's

by Betsy
Diamond Cut - The Most Important of the 4Cs DiamondCut1-7
A diamond cut is one of the “4Cs” used to determine a diamond's value. A diamond uses specific geometric proportions to shape a diamond before polishing. When a diamond is cut, facets are created. These facets determine the shape and appearance of the diamond. The cut of the diamond greatly determines the diamond's brilliance. When the cut is done poorly, the diamond becomes less luminous. Although a diamond may grade well using other determiners, a poor cut can result in a dull, muted effect.

Big Girl Ring

by Betsy
I finally have my BGR (a.k.a. big girl ring!) It's been several years in the making but well worth the wait. I bought a blue sapphire several years ago and put it in a pendant. At the same time, I upgraded my diamond earrings that began as little specks in my ears. In November I decided it was time to create my own BGR. With Betsy's help, I ended up with my beautiful new ring that not only became a home for my sapphire, but for my diamonds as well. The best part, is that Betsy was just as excited as I was. She's the best. Thanks, Betsy.

Welcome to our New Blog!

We've finally done it!

Diana Jewelers of Liverpool has gone social.

Welcome to our newly redesigned website! Along with our new blog, we have a newsletter area and an article area.

We'll be using our blog to post the latest news from the store. Sometimes you'll see new arrivals and sometimes you'll hear about events we are thinking about. Perhaps one of us may just come on here and post about the newest thing a customer told us.

Either way, stay tuned!

Please provide feedback to us when you see something you like.

There's a form at the bottom of this page for your feedback and we look forward to hearing from you.
